Being a multi-cultural society, Singapore is a melting pot for various types of cuisines. Even before Sir Stamford Raffles step foot on this tiny island, there were various travellers who have traversed from lands abroad and brought with them their cuisines. With the arrival of the British and then becoming an important trading port, even more cuisines started to take root in Singapore. Native Malays, Chinese, Indian, British cuisines were the first four major cuisines back then. Inter-marriages between ethnicities brought about melded cuisines – Peranakan, Eurasian. As such, we as a nation, have a treasure trove of heritage recipes. And with a national pastime of eating, it is no wonder that these beloved recipes do get pass down from generation to generation. And we would like to share these traditions with you!
